Welcome to Drakelands House Nursing Home Kilkenny, an elegant country style home with spacious purpose built facilities and beautiful gardens. Elevated, with wonderful views overlooking the city of Kilkenny and surrounding countryside, Drakelands House has an outstanding reputation for the provision of care since 1997.

The proprietors Anne and Chris together with their teams of highly respected staff are dedicated to the philosophy of providing a home from home for every resident.

Each resident is welcomed to Drakelands House as an individual where an holistic emphasis on Medical, Nursing, Social and Spiritual care encourages health and happiness.

Anne Fleck-Byrne - Drakelands House Nursing Home Kilkenny

Anne Fleck-Byrne

Managing Director and Director of Nursing

Anne trained as a General Nurse at Ardkeen Hospital, Waterford and first gained gerontological experience at St Mary‘s Hospital, Phoenix Park, Dublin. Subsequently Anne worked in the UK as Assistant Director of Nursing and Director of Nursing in small privately owned Nursing Homes and for larger groups ANS and BUPA Healthcare UK (1984-1997). She gained valuable business management and leadership training, experience and skills through employment in International Healthcare recruitment and as Personal Assistant, Company Secretary and Managing Director within the aviation sector.  Anne has been the Managing Director of Drakelands House Nursing Home in Kilkenny since 2002 and Director of Nursing since 1997. She is Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland and is a member of the Institute of Directors.

Chris Fleck - Drakelands House Nursing Home Kilkenny

Chris Fleck

Director

Chris qualified as a Construction Engineer in the UK and worked on large scale projects in Norway, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and UK. He subsequently moved into Financial Planning in 1987 and worked with UK and Dutch International companies prior to returning to Ireland. Chris has been a Director of Drakelands House Nursing Home since 2002 when he and Anne took over as Proprietors. He works on site daily in Finance, HR, leading new projects and overseeing development projects. Chris is a member of the Institute of Directors.

Rory Fleck Byrne - Drakelands House Nursing Home Kilkenny

Rory Fleck Byrne

Director

Rory answered the COVID call and returned to live in Ireland in March 2020 to work as a support Director for Drakelands House. He is a film maker, actor, writer, director who achieved his BA from Kings College London and RADA London. Rory attained his business management experience growing up in the family business and attending seminars and courses in the UK and Ireland. He brings a fresh approach to technology, sustainability and the Circular Economy which is being explored in context of our healthcare provision currently.  Rory is an Associate member of the Institute of Directors

Phil Phelan

Assistant Director of Nursing Services

Phil specialises in Psychiatric Nursing and qualified in 1979. Phil has worked as a Psychiatric Nurse with the HSE at all levels and during this period she also worked in the Care of the Elderly. She completed her Preceptorship Course in 2004 and her Management Training in 2005. Phil joined the team at Drakelands House in April 2012 and works directly with the Directors and Management Team to oversee the care and welfare of all the Residents at Drakelands House. Phil completed her Leadership and Management Training in 2018 and Wound Management with the RCSI and Palliative Care Training in 2017. Phil is registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland

Beatrice Louro - Drakelands House Nursing Home Kilkenny

Beatrice Louro

Acting Clinical Nurse Manager

Beatriz graduated from Escola Superior de Enfermagem de Coimbra (Coimbra Nursing School) in Portugal as a General Nurse in 2016. She began working in the rehabilitation unit of Hospital Da Mealhada in Portugal thereafter. Beatriz moved to Dublin in March 2017, and worked as a Staff Nurse in a Lucan based Nursing Home Home until July 2018 when she returned to Portugal. She commenced her position as Staff Nurse at Drakelands House in January 2019 and has since worked as Night Liaison Staff Nurse, Senior Staff Nurse and currently Acting Clinical Nurse Manager. She is registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland. All senior staff have up to date training in COVID 19, Infection Prevention and Control, COVID Swabbing and Peer to Peer Vaccination.

Accounts Manager and Administration

Kerry joined the team at Drakelands House in March 2011. Kerry completed her Secretarial Course in 1988 and qualified as an Accounting Technician with the Accounting Technicians of Ireland in 2012 and has gained over 25 years of experience in administration including payroll, personnel, legal and accounts working in Ireland, England and New Zealand. Kerry works directly with the Directors in accounts management and administration.

Mairead Shortall - Drakelands House Nursing Home Kilkenny

Mairead Shortall

Operations Supervisor, Risk Management Officer and Trainer

Mairead joined the Team at Drakelands House in March 2012. Initially employed as a Senior Health Care Assistant Mairead was promoted to Operations Supervisor in 2019. She is the Risk Management Officer and Trainer for Drakelands House. Mairead completed the Diploma in Training Adults in Maynooth College of further education, is a trained trainer in Infection Prevention and Control, a Manual Handling Instructor, Fire Safety Trainer and provides in-house training in the latter disciplines Mairead works directly with the Directors and the Management Team to ensure the safety care and welfare of the Residents and staff through training and supervision.

Karen Moloney - Drakelands House Nursing Home Kilkenny

Senior Chef and Manager Catering Department

Karen gained the City and Guilds of London Institute 706/1 and 706/2 cooking for the Catering Industry and HAACP for the Catering Industry. Karen joined our team at Drakelands House Nursing Home in October 2016 having spent 14 years in a local reputable dining establishment. She is responsible for all Nutritional & Dietary requirements of the residents, all catering operations, HACCAP and staff training in food handling, kitchen hygiene and HACCP. Karen works with the Directors and the Management Team to ensure the Nutritional requirements of the residents are met at all times.

Denise Drennan - Drakelands House Nursing Home Kilkenny

Activities Co-Ordinator

Denise joined the team at Drakelands House in August 2013. Denise completed her FETAC Care of the Elderly Course in 2012. Initially employed as a Health Care Assistant Denise also worked a part-time Activities Co-Ordinator until taking up the full-time role of Activities Co-Ordinator in September 2018. Denise completed her SONAS Course in January 2019 and completed training in Imagination Gym in 2019. She also completed Level 5&6 Special Needs Assistant and Enhancing Quality of Life through meaningful activities with Persons with Dementia Training in March 2018. Denise works directly with the Directors and Management Team to ensure the Residents engage in meaningful activities as they so choose.

Aisling O'Donnell - Drakelands House Nursing Home Kilkenny

Aisling O’Donnell

Receptionist & Administration Assistant

Aisling joined our team in October 2020 bringing over 20 years front of house experience in the Hospitality Industry working in some of Irelands leading hotels. She gained the City & Guilds London Accreditation in Secretarial and Administration Studies, followed up by the more recent ECDL and Train the Trainer course. Aisling loves working with people and really enjoys the daily interaction with the Residents and provides a warm and professional welcome to all both on the telephone and in person.
